The simple act of stretching does a lot more than make your body pretty flexible and able to work well. It may help prevent injuries or even illness—all it takes is 10 easy minutes a day!

If you don’t have 10 minutes a day to spare, stretching just a few times a week can be nearly as beneficial. In fact, that may be enough to help you stay more flexible once you’ve gotten there. A study published in the Journal of Strength Conditioning and Research found that after stretching every day for a month, participants who went on to stretch just two or three times a week maintained their degree of flexibility. Those who stopped stretching, however, lost about 7 percent of their hip range of motion within a month.
Here are five of the most important benefits of stretching:

  • It Increases your range of movement in the joints.
  • It Enhances your muscular coordination.
  • It Increases the circulation of the blood to various parts of  your body.
  • It Increases your energy levels (resulting from increased circulation)
